The Destination, Yes. But the Journey…!

Recently, I was joking with a co-worker (but also not really joking) about how many of us have to go through a ton of chaos before we run back to God ready to listen. In many ways I am still stubborn, but in even more ways I am more patient and receptive to hard lessons that come my way.

Even though the topics of my writing and vulnerable social media shares can be “a lot to take in,” I write this way…

I write this way because it is just part of who I am, and while I won’t go into over explaining aspects of me, I do want to reiterate to all audiences (or lack there of) that art of any form comes out of a creative being as it should. When it should, and art shared does not always capture the current state of mind. Some moments in life take a while to process and express, you know.

The Destination, Yes. But MY Journey, through poetry…!

I.

An awkward rustle of my tip toeing

away from a lackluster reality of connectivity –

that was the sound of the bones of my and your skeletons –

and filth and baggage.

Love letters not so much burnt but never opened –

both void of something, that love was colorless.

We both kept collections of our own secrets stuffed in suitcases that would not fit in that cute little rendition of love.

How could I have not had a premonition of such turmoil..?

II.

patience meets still meets faith

meets healing meets fate –

but I cannot elevate

with these chains on me.

I am bothered

I am stirred

my shadow is layered,

I’m not surprised –

little me

what is this that I see,

a still image

within your eyes ?

release

or the memories

will paralyze.

(I enjoyed writing these poems. Both I and II were inspired by writing prompts that I found on the Threads app.)

Inner Peace for Me

In a world full of

rush rush

pressure pressure

pride & ego clashing

anger &

culture &

gender bashing…

Remain true to yourself.

(I wrote this poem as a way to keep myself in check; I still remind myself that in many ways I have nothing to prove to anyone. I say is this way as there are several goals and things that I do still want to show up for and complete when it comes to my children, but I think you get what I mean here.)

Truth is, the real task was proving to myself what I now clearly see –

within me.

Because, trying to edit what I consider to be false narratives lingering in the minds and out of the mouths of others – would not be real progress.
